When Life Throws Thorns

We expect life to give us roses…beautiful, fragrant, picture-perfect moments. And sometimes it does.

But more often, life throws thorns.

The sharp words. The unexpected losses. The betrayal you didn’t see coming. The opportunity that slipped through your fingers. The ache of doing your best and still feeling unseen.

Thorns don’t ask permission. They pierce. They linger. And sometimes they bury themselves so deep it feels like they’ve become a part of you.

But here’s what I have learned:

Thorns are not proof of failure. They’re evidence of growth.

No rose grows without them. And no strong, soft, purpose-filled soul escapes them either.

We spend so much time avoiding pain, hoping for the smoother road, the easier chapter. But there are some lessons only thorns can teach.

They teach us to slow down. When life pricks you, it makes you pay attention. They teach us to protect what’s tender. Your heart, your peace, your purpose. They teach us how strong we really are. If you're still standing after the thorns, you're stronger than you realize.

Jesus wore a crown of thorns before glory. Maybe that tells us something about suffering, about sacrifice, about purpose born through pain.

So the next time life throws thorns, don’t just curse the pain. Ask what it’s shaping. What it’s pruning. What it’s revealing.

Because some of the most powerful seasons start with something sharp.

And when the bloom comes, and it will… you’ll know it was worth it.

she rose against all odds. Long live the rose that grew from concrete.
